The Family Sponsorship Program is an initiative by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) that allows eligible sponsors to help their immediate family members become permanent residents of Canada. The program covers spouses, dependent children, parents, grandparents, and even certain extended family members under specific conditions.

Eligibility Criteria for Sponsors

To sponsor a family member, the sponsor must meet the following requirements:

βœ” Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident

βœ” Be at least 18 years old

βœ” Reside in Canada (or plan to return after sponsoring)

βœ” Meet Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) requirements (for parents and grandparents)

βœ” Sign a financial undertaking to support the sponsored person

βœ” Not be receiving social assistance (except for disability benefits)
