New Express Entry CRS Points Explained: Canada PR Updates for 2026
Canada is introducing changes to its Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) from November 3, 2026. These changes will affect how eligible Canadian work experience and qualifying job offers are assessed for additional points.
If you are planning to apply for Canadian permanent residence or already have an Express Entry profile, understanding the new rules can help you prepare.
What Is Changing in the Express Entry CRS?
The new Labour Market Integration factor will award points based on either eligible Canadian work experience or a qualifying job offer in an eligible high-wage occupation.
You can receive points through one of these options, not both. IRCC will assess which option gives you the higher score.
1. CRS Points for Canadian Work Experience
Candidates may continue to receive CRS points based on the length of their qualifying Canadian work experience. Additional points may be available for experience in eligible high-wage occupations.
The work-length points remain based on the existing rules for qualifying Canadian work experience in TEER 0, 1, 2 and 3 occupations.
For eligible high-wage work experience, the additional points are:
At least twice the overall median wage threshold: 70 additional points.
At least 1.5 times the threshold, but less than twice: 40 additional points.
At least 1.3 times the threshold, but less than 1.5 times: 20 additional points.
Generally, candidates need at least 12 months of qualifying Canadian work experience in eligible high-wage occupations to receive these additional points.
2. CRS Points for Qualifying Job Offers
IRCC is reintroducing CRS points for qualifying job offers in eligible high-wage occupations.
The announced points are:
At least twice the overall median wage threshold: 100 points.
At least 1.5 times the threshold, but less than twice: 70 points.
At least 1.3 times the threshold, but less than 1.5 times: 50 points.
Job offers outside the eligible high-wage occupation levels will not receive points under this new factor. However, a valid job offer may still help with eligibility for certain immigration programs.
3. What Does High-Wage Occupation Mean?
Eligibility is determined using the occupation's median wage across Canada, based on its National Occupational Classification (NOC) code. It is not based only on the salary an individual applicant earns.
Candidates should check IRCC's official eligible high-wage occupation list before assuming their job qualifies.
4. How Will LMIA Requirements Change?
From November 3, 2026, an LMIA will no longer be required for qualifying job offers to receive the new CRS points or to meet the relevant job offer requirements under the Federal Skilled Worker Program and Federal Skilled Trades Program.
Having an LMIA will not provide extra CRS points or give a profile priority under these changes.
IRCC will still assess job offers to ensure they are genuine and meet the relevant requirements.
5. What Happens to Existing Express Entry Profiles?
IRCC plans to recalculate CRS scores for existing profiles when the changes take effect. This process may take up to two weeks, during which invitation rounds will be paused.
Candidates who may qualify for points through a job offer should review their profile and ensure that all required information is accurate before November 3, 2026.
6. Who Could Benefit From the New Rules?
The changes may be relevant to candidates with eligible Canadian work experience in high-wage occupations and candidates with qualifying job offers in those occupations.
Applicants without Canadian work experience or a qualifying job offer should still assess other CRS factors, including age, education, language proficiency and other eligible criteria.
The new points do not guarantee an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence.
Conclusion
The new Express Entry CRS rules introduce a Labour Market Integration factor that recognises eligible Canadian work experience or qualifying job offers in high-wage occupations. They also change how LMIA requirements apply to qualifying job offers.
