IELTS 8777: How Many CRS Points Can You Get?
Understanding your IELTS 8777 CRS points is important when planning your Canada PR application. An IELTS General Training score of 8777 achieves CLB 9 in all four language abilities and can help improve your Express Entry CRS score.
If you are planning to apply for Canada Permanent Residency (PR) through Express Entry, your IELTS score can play an important role in determining your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. An IELTS score of 8777 is a strong English language result and can help you achieve Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 9 in all four language abilities.
But how many CRS points can you actually earn with IELTS 8777? Does it qualify you for additional skill transferability points? Let's understand the IELTS 8777 score conversion and its impact on your Canada PR application.
What Does IELTS 8777 Mean?
IELTS 8777 generally refers to the following IELTS General Training scores:
Listening: 8.0
Reading: 7.0
Writing: 7.0
Speaking: 7.0
These scores meet the CLB 9 requirement in all four language abilities under Canada's Express Entry language equivalency system.

How Many CRS Points Can You Get with IELTS 8777?
Your CRS points for English language proficiency depend on whether you are applying with an accompanying spouse or without one.
For IELTS 8777 (CLB 9 in all four abilities), the direct first official language CRS points are:
Language Ability With Spouse Without Spouse Listening2931 Reading2931 Writing2931 Speaking2931 Total116124
This means:
Without an accompanying spouse: 124 CRS points.
With an accompanying spouse: 116 CRS points.
These figures represent your first official language points only, not your complete CRS score.
Can IELTS 8777 Help You Get Additional CRS Points?
Yes. Achieving CLB 9 in all four English abilities can help you qualify for additional points through the CRS skill transferability factors.
These factors consider your language proficiency along with other qualifications, including:
1. Education and Language Proficiency
If you have a qualifying post-secondary education credential and CLB 9 or higher in all four abilities, you may receive additional CRS points.
Depending on your education, you may qualify for up to 50 points in this category.
2. Foreign Work Experience and Language Proficiency
If you have qualifying foreign work experience and CLB 9 or higher across all four abilities, you may receive additional skill transferability points.
Depending on your work experience, you may qualify for up to 50 points in this category.
Important: Skill transferability points depend on your complete education and work experience profile. They are not automatically awarded just for achieving IELTS 8777. The overall skill transferability maximum is 100 points.
IELTS 8777 vs IELTS 8778: Which Is Better for Canada PR?
IELTS 8777 already meets CLB 9 in all four language abilities.
However, improving your IELTS score to 8778 does not necessarily improve your CRS points. The score required to reach CLB 10 differs for each language ability.
For CLB 10, the IELTS General Training requirements are:
Listening: 8.5
Reading: 8.0
Writing: 7.5
Speaking: 7.5
If you improve all four abilities to CLB 10, you can earn higher direct language points:
Without a spouse: 136 CRS points.
With a spouse: 128 CRS points.
Therefore, improving from CLB 9 to CLB 10 in all four abilities can increase your direct first official language points by 12 CRS points.
Why Is CLB 9 Important for Canada PR?
CLB 9 is an important milestone for Express Entry candidates because it can help maximise the benefits of language proficiency under the skill transferability factors.
Some key advantages include:
Higher CRS points for English language proficiency.
Potential additional points through education and language combinations.
Potential additional points through foreign work experience and language combinations.
Better overall competitiveness in the Express Entry pool.
How Can You Improve Your CRS Score After IELTS 8777?
If you already have IELTS 8777, you have achieved a strong language result. However, you can explore other ways to improve your CRS score.
Improve IELTS to CLB 10: Aim for higher scores in all four abilities to increase your direct language points.
Learn French: Qualifying French language results can provide additional CRS points.
Gain Canadian Work Experience: Eligible Canadian work experience can increase your CRS score.
Improve Your Education Credentials: A higher or additional recognised qualification may improve your education-related points.
Explore Provincial Nominee Programs: A provincial nomination can provide 600 additional CRS points.
Is IELTS 8777 Enough for Canada PR?
IELTS 8777 is a strong result for Canada Express Entry because it achieves CLB 9 in all four language abilities.
However, IELTS alone does not guarantee an invitation to apply for permanent residence. Your final CRS score depends on several factors, including:
Age
Education
Work experience
English and French language proficiency
Spouse or partner factors
Additional CRS points
Your eligibility and invitation prospects depend on your complete profile and the relevant Express Entry selection criteria.
Final Thoughts
An IELTS score of 8777 can give your Canada PR profile a strong language foundation by achieving CLB 9 in all four abilities. It provides 124 direct first official language CRS points without an accompanying spouse or 116 points with an accompanying spouse.
If you want to improve your CRS score further, consider targeting CLB 10, exploring French language proficiency and strengthening your education and work experience profile.
