Canada Express Entry Changes November 2026: New CRS Points and Job Offer Rules

Canada is introducing important changes to its Express Entry immigration system from November 3, 2026. These updates will change how eligible Canadian work experience and qualifying job offers are assessed under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

The changes aim to better align Canada's economic immigration system with labour market needs and attract skilled workers who can contribute to the Canadian economy.

If you are planning to apply for Canada permanent residence or already have an Express Entry profile, understanding these updates can help you prepare.

What Are the Major Canada Express Entry Changes in November 2026?

The main changes announced by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) include a new Labour Market Integration factor in the CRS, additional points for eligible Canadian work experience in high-wage occupations, and the return of CRS points for qualifying job offers in eligible high-wage occupations.

The new rules will take effect on November 3, 2026.

1. New CRS Points for Canadian Work Experience

Under the updated system, eligible candidates may receive points based on the duration of their Canadian work experience, with additional points available for qualifying experience in eligible high-wage occupations.

Candidates generally need at least 12 months of qualifying Canadian work experience in an eligible high-wage occupation to receive the additional high-wage experience points.

The additional points depend on the wage level assigned to the occupation:

At least twice the applicable overall median wage threshold: 70 additional points.

At least 1.5 times the threshold, where the higher tier does not apply: 40 additional points.

At least 1.3 times the threshold, where the higher tiers do not apply: 20 additional points.

The occupation's wage classification is based on Canadian occupational wage data, not simply on an individual's personal salary.

2. CRS Points for Qualifying Job Offers

The new system will reintroduce CRS points for qualifying job offers in eligible high-wage occupations.

Depending on the occupation's wage level, candidates may receive 50, 70 or 100 CRS points.

A qualifying offer at the highest wage tier may receive 100 points, while offers at lower eligible tiers may receive 70 or 50 points.

A job offer does not automatically qualify. It must meet the relevant Express Entry requirements, fall within an eligible occupation and be assessed as genuine by IRCC.

3. Changes to LMIA Requirements

From November 3, 2026, a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) will no longer be required for a qualifying job offer to receive the new Express Entry CRS points or to meet the relevant job offer requirements under the Federal Skilled Worker Program and Federal Skilled Trades Program.

However, removing the LMIA requirement does not mean that every job offer will qualify. IRCC will continue checking whether the employer, position and offer are genuine and meet the applicable rules.

An LMIA will also no longer provide additional CRS points or priority simply because it has been issued.

4. What Happens to Existing Express Entry Profiles?

Candidates already in the Express Entry pool will have their CRS scores recalculated when the new rules take effect.

IRCC says this recalculation may take up to two weeks. Invitation rounds will be paused during this period and will resume after the recalculation process is complete.

Candidates who may qualify for points through a job offer should review their profiles and ensure that the required job offer information is accurate before November 3, 2026.

Always follow the latest official IRCC instructions when updating your profile.

5. Who Could Benefit From the Changes?

These updates may be particularly relevant to candidates with eligible Canadian work experience in high-wage occupations and those with qualifying job offers in occupations listed by IRCC.

Professionals working in areas such as engineering, technology, health care, skilled trades and education may wish to check whether their occupation appears on the official eligible high-wage occupation list.

However, working in one of these broad sectors does not automatically make someone eligible for extra points. The specific occupation and applicable requirements must be checked.

Candidates without Canadian work experience or a qualifying high-wage job offer should still review their eligibility under the relevant Express Entry program and monitor official invitation rounds.

6. What Should Applicants Do Now?

If you already have an Express Entry profile, review your personal information, employment history and any job offer details.

If you have a Canadian job offer, confirm that it meets the applicable requirements and check whether the occupation is eligible for the new points.

If you are applying from outside Canada, assess your eligibility, language test results, education credentials, work experience and other CRS factors. Do not assume that a job offer or the new rules will guarantee an invitation.

Keep checking official IRCC announcements because immigration procedures, eligible occupations and invitation requirements may change.

Conclusion

The Canada Express Entry changes scheduled for November 3, 2026, introduce a new way to award CRS points for eligible Canadian work experience and qualifying high-wage job offers. They also remove the LMIA requirement for qualifying job offers under the specified Express Entry rules.

These updates may create new opportunities for some skilled workers, but eligibility depends on individual circumstances and the official requirements. Additional CRS points do not guarantee an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence.
