Express Entry Changes for Indian Applicants: Canada PR Updates for November 2026
Canada is introducing important changes to its Express Entry immigration system from November 3, 2026. These changes will affect how eligible candidates receive Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points for Canadian work experience and qualifying job offers in certain high-wage occupations.
For Indian professionals planning to settle in Canada, understanding the new rules can help with immigration planning. However, the changes do not provide additional points simply because an applicant is an Indian citizen.
1. What Are the New Express Entry Changes?
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is introducing a new Labour Market Integration factor under the CRS.
Eligible candidates may receive points through either qualifying Canadian work experience or a qualifying job offer in an eligible high-wage occupation.
IRCC will compare the two options and award the one that provides the higher score. Applicants cannot combine points from both options under this factor.
2. How Can Indian Applicants Benefit?
Indian applicants who already have qualifying Canadian work experience or an eligible high-wage job offer may benefit from the changes.
Professionals in engineering, technology, health care, skilled trades and other eligible occupations should review the official high-wage occupation list to determine whether their specific NOC code qualifies.
Applicants living in India without Canadian work experience or a qualifying job offer will not receive these additional points merely because they work in a high-demand profession. They can still qualify for Express Entry through the applicable programs and CRS criteria.
3. New CRS Points for Qualifying Job Offers
From November 3, 2026, qualifying job offers in eligible high-wage occupations may receive:
100 points for occupations at the highest eligible wage tier.
70 points for occupations at the middle eligible wage tier.
50 points for occupations at the lower eligible wage tier.
The applicable tier depends on the occupation's median wage across Canada and its National Occupational Classification (NOC) code.
A job offer must meet IRCC's requirements and be genuine. A high salary or a full-time offer alone does not guarantee eligibility.
4. Points for Canadian Work Experience
Eligible Canadian work experience may also contribute to the new factor. Candidates can receive points based on the duration of their qualifying experience, with additional points for experience in eligible high-wage occupations.
Additional high-wage experience points may be:
70 points for qualifying experience at the highest wage tier.
40 points for qualifying experience at the middle wage tier, if the higher tier does not apply.
20 points for qualifying experience at the lower eligible wage tier, if the higher tiers do not apply.
Generally, at least 12 months of qualifying Canadian work experience in eligible high-wage occupations is required for these additional points.
5. What Is Changing About LMIA Requirements?
From November 3, 2026, an LMIA will no longer be required for a qualifying job offer to receive the new CRS points or meet the specified job offer requirements under the Federal Skilled Worker Program and Federal Skilled Trades Program.
However, IRCC will continue assessing whether the job offer is genuine and meets the applicable requirements. Not every job offer will qualify for additional CRS points.
Having an LMIA will no longer provide extra CRS points or priority under the new rules.
6. What Happens to Existing Express Entry Profiles?
IRCC plans to recalculate existing Express Entry profiles automatically when the changes take effect.
The process may take up to two weeks, during which invitation rounds will be paused and are expected to resume once recalculation is complete.
If you already have a profile and want to receive points for a qualifying job offer, ensure the required information is included and accurate before November 3, 2026.
7. What Should Indian Applicants Do Now?
If you are applying from India, review your eligibility under the Federal Skilled Worker Program or another suitable Express Entry pathway.
Check your language test results, educational credentials, work experience and CRS score. If you have Canadian work experience or a job offer, verify the exact NOC code and the applicable requirements.
Do not rely on job advertisements or an employer's promise of sponsorship alone. Verify the employer, job offer and immigration requirements through reliable sources.
Conclusion
The November 2026 Express Entry changes may benefit Indian applicants who have eligible Canadian work experience or qualifying job offers in high-wage occupations. However, eligibility depends on the individual profile, occupation and applicable requirements, not nationality alone.
Review the latest IRCC guidance before making decisions about your application.
