Express Entry Changes for Existing Profiles: What Canada PR Applicants Need to Know in 2026

Canada is introducing important changes to its Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) from November 3, 2026. These updates will affect how eligible Canadian work experience and qualifying job offers contribute to a candidate's CRS score.

If you already have an Express Entry profile, understanding these changes is important. Your score may be recalculated automatically, and you may need to update your profile if you want to receive points for a qualifying job offer.

1. What Is Changing for Existing Express Entry Profiles?

From November 3, 2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will introduce a new Labour Market Integration factor.

Under this factor, eligible candidates may receive points for either qualifying Canadian work experience or a qualifying job offer in an eligible high-wage occupation.

IRCC will compare both options and award the one that provides the higher score. You cannot combine points from both options under this factor.

2. Will Your Existing CRS Score Be Recalculated?

Yes. IRCC has announced that existing Express Entry profiles will have their CRS scores automatically recalculated when the new rules take effect.

The recalculation process may take up to two weeks. During this period, Express Entry invitation rounds will be paused and will resume once the process is complete.

Candidates should not assume their score will increase. The final result will depend on their qualifying work experience, job offer details and the new scoring rules.

3. New CRS Points for Canadian Work Experience

Candidates with qualifying Canadian work experience may receive points based on the duration of their experience, with additional points available for qualifying work in eligible high-wage occupations.

The work-length points are:

Without an accompanying spouse or common-law partner:

  • 1 year: 40 points

  • 2 years: 53 points

  • 3 years: 64 points

  • 4 years: 72 points

  • 5 years or more: 80 points

With an accompanying spouse or common-law partner:

  • 1 year: 35 points

  • 2 years: 46 points

  • 3 years: 56 points

  • 4 years: 63 points

  • 5 years or more: 70 points

Additional high-wage work experience points may be available if you have at least 12 months of qualifying Canadian work experience in eligible occupations.

4. New Points for Qualifying Job Offers

Eligible job offers in high-wage occupations may receive additional CRS points under the new factor:

  • 100 points for occupations at the highest eligible wage tier.

  • 70 points for occupations at the middle eligible wage tier.

  • 50 points for occupations at the lower eligible wage tier.

The applicable wage tier is based on the occupation's median wage across Canada and its National Occupational Classification (NOC) code, not simply on your personal salary.

Not every Canadian job offer qualifies. The offer must meet the applicable Express Entry requirements and be genuine.

5. What Should You Do If You Have a Job Offer?

If you want to receive the new CRS points for a qualifying job offer, IRCC says you must update your Express Entry profile with the required information before November 3, 2026.

Review the following details:

Your employer and job offer information.

Your job title, duties and NOC code.

Whether the occupation appears on IRCC's eligible high-wage occupations list.

Whether the job offer meets the applicable program requirements.

Do not assume that a job offer automatically qualifies simply because it is full-time or offers a high salary.

If your profile requires information that the online system does not yet accommodate, follow IRCC's current official instructions rather than entering inaccurate details.

6. Will the LMIA Requirement Change?

Yes. From November 3, 2026, an LMIA will no longer be required for a qualifying job offer to receive the new CRS points or meet the specified job offer requirements under the Federal Skilled Worker Program and Federal Skilled Trades Program.

However, removing the LMIA requirement does not mean that every job offer will qualify.

IRCC will continue assessing whether the employer is operating legitimately, can fulfil the offer's terms, follows employment and recruitment laws, and is offering a genuine position. The candidate must also be qualified and able to perform the work.

Having an LMIA will no longer provide additional CRS points or priority under these changes.

7. What If Your Job Offer Is Not Eligible for High-Wage Points?

A job offer that does not qualify for points under the new high-wage factor may still help meet the eligibility requirements of certain Express Entry programs, provided it meets those programs' separate requirements.

Program eligibility and CRS job offer points are assessed differently. Applicants should check both sets of requirements before deciding whether a job offer can support their application.

8. How Can You Prepare Before November 3?

Review your current Express Entry profile and ensure that your work history, language test results, education details and other information are accurate.

If you have Canadian work experience, check that it meets the relevant requirements and that your employment details are correct.

If you have a job offer, verify the NOC code, eligible wage tier and job offer conditions. Update the required details before the deadline if you want to receive points under the new factor.

Keep checking the official IRCC website for updated instructions, especially if you are unsure how to enter information about a job offer that does not have an LMIA.

Conclusion

The November 2026 Express Entry changes will affect how CRS points are calculated for existing profiles. IRCC plans to recalculate scores automatically, but candidates who want points for qualifying job offers must ensure their required information is entered before November 3, 2026.

Review your profile, confirm your eligibility and rely on official IRCC guidance when updating your information. A higher CRS score does not guarantee an Invitation to Apply or permanent residence approval.
